We combine skilled craftsmanship with clean shapes that suit the Nordic style. Our chess sets are made with care – and built to last, in both expression and use.

Designed to be inherited

At Norwald we make classic chess sets of the highest quality. The idea is that you should be able to play with them your whole life, and then they can be passed on to the next generations.

Handmade in solid wood

Our chess sets are made by some of the world’s most skilled chess makers in the Punjab region of India. An area known for its tradition and craftsmanship.

The master craftsman behind our sets has more than 25 years of experience and has created pieces for both the World Chess Championship and other major international tournaments. The craft itself has been refined over generations.

We use walnut, boxwood, maple, and acacia – materials chosen for their strength, balance, and timeless character.

About us

Not just a game

At Norwald, we create chess sets in solid wood. Every board and every piece is handmade by experienced chess makers in the Punjab region of India – an area renowned for the world’s finest chess sets.

The master craftsman behind our sets has more than 25 years of experience, and his work includes creating pieces for the World Chess Championship as well as many other major tournaments. The tradition goes back through generations.

We believe good craftsmanship speaks for itself, and that what you use often should also be built to last.

We strive for simplicity in form and calm in expression. Not to follow a style, but to create something you will want to keep on display for many, many years.
